COMPLETE RESULTS | Wingate at Queens dual meet

Charlotte, N.C.----In a clash of NCAA swimming titans, Queens University of Charlotte swept a dual meet over Wingate University at the Levine Center Friday evening. On the women's side, the host Royals prevailed 139-106. The Queens men outdistanced visiting Wingate 159-86. The contests opened the season for the South Atlantic Conference member Bulldogs.
 
Junior team captain Hana Kubalova (women's 50 and 100 Butterfly) and sophomore Miguel Marcos (men's 500 and 1000 Freestyle) won two events each. Marcos and classmate Kelsea Munro (50 and 100 Freestyle) posted two NCAA Division II B cuts each.
 
Sophomore transfer Marta Beesmans Barquero and freshman Ney Chagas Filho celebrated their inaugural appearances in the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold in style, winning the women's and the men's 100 Backstroke, respectively. On the evening, the Wingate women collected 18 medals with the aforementioned three golds. The Bulldog men amassed 14 medals, matching their female counterparts with three golds.

Although it was a different combination of events raced this week, I think that we as a team rose to the occasion and displayed some great racing. I also swam some different events than I would usually swim, but for where we are in the season right now, with the practice intensity that we've had, the races were decent."

"Queens was the perfect meet to kick off the season because our team is always challenged and they push us to give our best! It was fun swimming the 100 IM since I have not swum this event since I was much younger. The 800 Freestyle Relay is always a tough, but fun race. Relays are always my favorite. I enjoy swimming, having my teammates with me. This next weekend, we'll be traveling to Ohio for our first invitational of the season. We are looking forward to the challenge."

Next on the agenda
 
- Wingate will travel to the Buckeye State for the Ohio University Invitational next Friday and Saturday
- The Ohio U. head coach is Wingate Sports Hall of Fame swimmer Mason Norman ('10)
- In addition to the NCAA Division I Ohio U. Bobcats, the Bulldogs will face Division I newcomer Bellarmine and Division II rival Findlay
