Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University cross country teams begin the championship portion of the 2022 season Saturday, running in the South Atlantic Conference meet at the Salisbury Community Park in Salisbury, North Carolina. The women's 6K race begins at 9 a.m., while the men's 8K event starts at 10:30 a.m. Catawba College is the host for this year's SAC championship meet.
 
The nationally-ranked Bulldogs are the defending champions in both races. The current NCAA Division II No. 4 Wingate men had four of the top six and eight of the top 11 SAC finishers to win their first league title with 24 points. The No. 10 Bulldog women followed a similar trajectory on the way to their fifth SAC crown. Wingate had five of the top seven and seven of the top 11 SAC runners to record 23 points.

Wingate men fourth, women 10th in most recent USTFCCCA XC national polls
 
The Wingate University men's and women's cross country teams are in the top 10 of the most recent NCAA Division II U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) coaches' polls. The Bulldog men are fourth, while the Wingate women are 10th in the Oct. 26 listing. The Wingate squads pace the Southeast Region top-10 rankings as the No. 1 team for both women and men.
 
Most recent, the Wingate men finished first and the Bulldog women placed second in the University of Alabama Huntsville Invitational on Saturday, Oct 22. Both Bulldog teams have been listed in the top 10 all season. The WU men have been ranked fourth for four consecutive weeks after one week at No. 7 and two weeks at No. 6. The Wingate women have been ranked No. 6 in five of the first six polls. The Bulldogs were No. 7 the other week.

Wingate University to host NCAA Southeast Regional XC meet Nov. 19
 
Wingate University is hosting the 2022 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional cross country meet Saturday, Nov. 19 at the WU Cross Country Facility. NCAA officials made the change, moving the site from McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte to the University's 540-acre campus in Eastern Union County.
