Efficient Bulldogs move to 3-0 in SAC with win at Anderson

Anderson, S.C. —- The Wingate University men's basketball team committed just seven turnovers while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field in a 95-point outing in their win at Anderson University Wednesday night in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action. The Bulldogs move to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while the Trojans drop to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in league play.

KEY STATS
- Anderson made 57 percent of its shots; Wingate was 48 percent from the floor
- The Trojans were 11-for-25 (44 percent) from three-point range, while the Bulldogs made nine of 24 (38 percent) from deep
- WU was 24-for-29 (83 percent) from the free throw line; AU was 17-of-24 (71 percent) from the charity stripe
- The Trojans out-rebounded Wingate 32-31, but the Bulldogs out-scored AU in second-chance 18-10
- The 'Dogs turned 19 Anderson turnovers on eight steals and turned it into 25 points, while committing just seven turnovers offensively which resulted in 11 Trojan points

KEY BULLDOGS
- Andreas Wilson once again led the Bulldogs in scoring coming off the bench with 23 points with four three-pointers and a perfect seven-for-seven night from the foul line
- Donell Nixon posted 18 points, three assists and two steals
- Destin Clark had 17 points and six rebounds
- Jarren Cottingham added 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals
- Sasha Letino was the fifth Bulldog in double figures with 11 points on five-for-five shooting

FIRST HALF
- Nixon got the scoring started for Wingate nearly two minutes in with a three-pointer
- The two sides were even in the early going as a Clark three tied the game at six
- A 10-2 Anderson run opened up the Trojan lead to 16-8 just two minutes later
- Back-to-back layups from Letino and Ahman Greenidge cut the WU deficit to two at the 12:10 mark
- The Trojans went on a 9-0 run later over a two-minute span to take their largest lead of the game at 30-19 with less than eight minutes left in the half
- Consecutive buckets from Sean Elmore, Cottingham and Clark got the Bulldog deficit back to within four points
- The Trojans answered with a run of seven straight points of their own to retake an 11-point lead at the 4:53 mark
- The 'Dogs once again scored seven straight, capped by a Letino dunk that cut AU's lead to 37-33 with just over three minutes to play
- Wilson's three-pointer at the 1:28 mark gave the Bulldogs a 41-40 lead, their first since the score was 3-2
- The Trojans took a one-point lead into the halftime locker room after a Garrett Dunbow three in the closing seconds

SECOND HALF
- Anderson scored the opening five points of the second half, taking a 51-45 lead after a minute and a half
- The 'Dogs erased the deficit with an 8-0 run, capped by a Cottingham layup in transition
- AU retook the lead after five straight points a couple minutes later
- With under 14 minutes left, Wilson's three-pointer regained a Wingate lead Anderson would never get back
- Letino's layup capped a 7-0 spurt for the 'Dogs that turned a tie game into a 67-60 lead at the 11:21 mark
- Wilson's three-pointer curbed a quick 5-0 run for Anderson at the midway point of the half
- The lead remained between four and seven points for Wingate until a Luke Denbow layup cut the Trojan deficit to just two around the six-minute mark
- Six straight points from the Bulldogs stretched the lead to eight with just over five minutes left
- The Trojans never got within seven points the rest of the way, as Wingate used strong free throw shooting to prevent a potential comeback
