Panthers rally for 3-2 victory over Wingate on day one of Florida Tech Invitational

Cocoa Beach, Fla.----The Florida Tech Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday afternoon, rallying for a 2-1 victory over Wingate University on day one of the Florida Tech Invitational. The Panthers improve to 3-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-1 on the season.

- Wingate out-hit Florida Tech 9-8
- The Panthers had two of the three extra-base hits
- The Bulldogs left 10 on base; FIT stranded seven
- Florida Tech had the lone error of the contest
- WU pitching struck out six and walked two; FIT had five strikeouts and four walks

KEY BULLDOGS

- Hannah Reeves went three-for-three with an RBI to lead the Wingate offense
- Laney McLaurin was two-for-four with an RBI and a run scored
- Heaven Maness added a pair of hits
- Savanna Brooks had a double and scored a run
- Raechel Cutcher struck out four in four innings of work, allowing just one run

FIRST INNING

- The Bulldogs jumped out to an 2-0 lead in the top of the first
- Brooks drew a two-out walk, then scored on McLaurin's RBI single
- A Hannah Stevens single moved McLaurin to third
- Reeves followed with an RBI single to put WU on top by two
- An RBI single from Jolie Miracle in the bottom of the frame cut the lead in half
- That was all of the scoring until the sixth inning

SIXTH INNING

- Miracle started the frame with a double, while a hit batsman and sacrifice put runners on second and third
- Mikayla Wessel's two-out, two-run single put the Panthers on top 3-2
- Brooks led off the bottom of the frame with a double to left center
- She was stranded there after a flyout, popout and strikeout

WRAPUP

- Samantha Guider got the win, moving to 3-1 on the year
- She tossed three shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts, allowing three hits
- Sydney Kale took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in two innings, striking out two
