Bryant hits for cycle as #2 Wingate moves to 6-0 on the year

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University outfielder Jed Bryant went five-for-six Saturday afternoon, hitting for the cycle to lead the second-ranked Bulldogs to a 10-6 victory over the University of Charleston in NCAA Division II baseball at Ron Christopher Stadium. Wingate improves to 6-0 overall, while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-3 on the season.

- The 'Dogs had five of the eight extra-base hits and two of the three homers

SECOND INNING

- Williams Rhem ripped a one-out single up the middle
- He scored on Bryant's RBI double down the leftfield line to make it 4-1

FOURTH INNING

- Peter Costigan's RBI single in the top of the fourth cut the lead to two
- Wingate answered with two more in the bottom of the frame
- Seaver King walked to start the frame, then moved to second on a Motsinger sacrifice
- Bryant launched a no-doubt two-run shot to left center to put the 'Dogs on top 6-2

FIFTH INNING

- Bryce Toussaint led off the top of the fifth with a solo shot to make it a three-run game

SIXTH INNING

- Bryant started the frame with a single
- He scored on Clark's RBI single through the right side to make it 7-3

SEVENTH INNING

- Toussaint's two-run single made it a two-run game
- The Bulldogs responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame
- Singles from Motsinger and Williams-Rhem put two on for Bryant
- He completed his cycle with a two-run triple to dead center to make it 9-5
- McNeely followed with an RBI single to put Wingate in double digits for the fourth time this year

WRAPUP

- Mitchell got the win, moving to 2-0 on the year
- He allowed four earned runs on seven hits in six innings, striking out six and walking one
- Broderson allowed a run on three hits in three innings, striking out five to earn the save
- Colt Webb took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in four innings
