Wingate, N.C.----The second-ranked and defending national champion Wingate University Bulldogs opened the 2022 season by scoring in each of the first six innings, jumping out to a 10-0 lead en route to a 16-10 victory over Coker University in NCAA Division II baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate starts the season 1-0, while the Cobras fall to 0-1.

FOURTH INNING
- RBI singles from Brady Jeffcoat and Bryan Castillo made it 10-2 in the top of the fourth
- Wingate answered with three more runs in the bottom of the frame
- Guy's RBI double plated the first run of the frame
- Dansky followed with an RBI double to put the 'Dogs back on top by 10
- A wild pitch allowed Dansky to score, making it 13-2
FIFTH INNING
- RBI singles from Reilly Hall and Jackson Williams made it 13-4 in the top of the fifth
- Dansky was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 14-4
- McNeely's sacrifice fly put Wingate back on top by 11
SIXTH INNING
- Hall's two-run single highlighted a three-run top of the sixth, making it 15-7
- Chapman's pinch-hit RBI triple plated Clark in the bottom of the frame to make it a nine-run game
SEVENTH INNING
- A Phil Griffor RBI double and Williams RBI single made the final margin 16-10
WRAPUP
- McCullough got the win, moving to 1-0 on the year
- The All-American struck out 11 in his 4 2/3 innings of work, allowing two earned runs
- Broderson allowed just two hits in his 2 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three
- Tanner Wofford took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking three
