‘Dogs move to 17-1 in league play with 87-52 win over Mars Hill

Wingate, N.C.-—-Wingate University junior forward Bryanna Troutman dropped a game-high 21 points, while adding nine rebounds and four assists, helping the Bulldogs to a dominant 87-52 victory over Mars Hill in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 19-2 overall and 17-1 in league play, while MHU drops to 1-18 overall and 1-16 in the SAC.

- Wingate shot 51 percent from the field, while the Lions made just 32 percent of their shot attempts
- The Bulldogs were nine-of-30 (30 percent) from beyond the arc; Mars Hill went four-of-16 (25 percent) from deep

SECOND QUARTER
 
- MHU scored the first points of the second quarter over a minute in
- Sullivan's three-pointer at the 7:58 mark gave the Bulldogs their largest lead to that point

- Troutman's free throw with 58 seconds remaining gave the 'Dogs a 38-17 lead

THIRD QUARTER
 
- After Mars Hill scored the opening bucket of the half, Wingate scored the next seven points
- Davis's layup extended the lead to 23 points
- The Lions scored six of the next eight points to bring the deficit under 20 points
- The Bulldogs responded with a quick 8-0 run shortly followed by Sullivan's fourth three-pointer in under a five-minute span
- WU scored the final six points of the quarter to take its first 30-point lead into the final 10 minutes
 
FOURTH QUARTER
 
- MaeOla Willis scored the first points of the quarter a minute and a half in
- The 'Dogs went on another 9-0 scoring run capped by a Willis jumper to give Wingate a 77-39 edge
- The teams traded baskets for a majority of the quarter including a couple Jaxson Douglas triples
- WU took its largest lead of 38 points before the Lions scored the final three points

- The 'Dogs are back in action Monday, traveling to Catawba for a 5:30 p.m. start
- The contest was originally scheduled to be at Wingate, but was moved Saturday afternoon
