#2 Wingate scores early and often in 14-3 victory over Catawba

Kannapolis, N.C.----The second-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs plated four runs in the top of the first inning Tuesday night, rolling to a 14-3 victory over Catawba College in NCAA Division II baseball action at Atrium Health Ballpark. Wingate improves to 28-3 overall, while the Indians fall to 21-12 on the season.

- A two-run double from Driver in the bottom of the frame pulled Catawba within three

FIFTH INNING

- Chapman led off the frame with a double to right
- He scored on an RBI groundout from Adams to make it 6-2
- An RBI double from Miller pulled the Indians back within three in the bottom of the frame
- That would be the final run of the night for Catawba

SIXTH INNING

- Motsinger started things with a one-out single
- Dansky followed with a towering two-run shot to right to put WU on top 8-3

*NINTH INNING

- Wingate put things out of reach with a six-run ninth inning
- A McNeely single, followed by walks to Bryant and Chapman loaded the bases
- An Adams RBI groundout started the scoring in the inning, while an error made it 10-3
- Williams-Rhem added an RBI single to plate Wingate's 11th run of the night
- Guy's two-run double down the left field line made it 13-3
- Motsinger's RBI groundout plated Guy to make the final margin 14-3

WRAPUP

- Howard got the win, moving to 2-0 on the year
- He tossed a scoreless inning of relief with a pair of strikeouts
- Adam Dossenback took the loss, falling to 3-1
- He allowed four runs on four hits without recording an out
