Anderson knocks off top-seeded Bulldogs in SAC Tournament semifinals

Box Score Greenville, S.C.----The fourth-seeded Anderson University Trojans knocked off top-seeded Wingate University 76-69 in the semifinals of the 2022 South Atlantic Conference women's basketball tournament Saturday afternoon in Timmons Arena. Anderson improves to 20-9 overall, advancing to Sunday's SAC title game, while the Bulldogs fall to 24-5 on the season.

- Anderson shot 39 percent from the field; Wingate shot 34 percent
- The Trojans went six-for-16 from three-point range; the 'Dogs went four-for-12 from deep
- AU outrebounded the Bulldogs 45-41, holding a 14-10 edge in second-chance points

- The Trojans went 24-for-36 at the free throw line; the Bulldogs went 21-for-29

FIRST QUARTER

- A Diamond McDowell bucket four minutes in gave Anderson a 10-0 lead
- Brandon's two free throws at the 5:39 mark got the Bulldogs on the board
- Troutman's three-point play a minute later made it a seven-point game
- Lowery buried a three to make it 12-8
- AU scored the final six of the frame, taking an 18-8 lead on two Shameka McNeill free throws

SECOND QUARTER

- Wilson's triple in the opening minute pulled the 'Dogs back within seven
- Two McNeill free throws at the 7:13 mark pushed the Anderson advantage to 11
- Three Brittney Stafford free throws at the midway point made it 28-16
- Troutman's jumper with three minutes to go cut the lead to six
- Wilson's layup a minute later made it 32-28
- AU scored the last five of the half, taking a 37-28 lead on a McDowell free throw with 16 seconds left

THIRD QUARTER

- Peyton Davis knocked down a three at the 6:34 mark to make it 41-35
- Sullivan's bucket along with two Clark free throws made it a two-point game with 3:30 to go
- Two more Clark free throws with two minutes left made it a one-point game at 47-46
- Troutman knocked down two free throws at the 1:30 mark to put the 'Dogs on top 48-47
- Troutman's layup with 55 seconds left gave WU a two-point lead
-Anderson scored the last five of the quarter, taking a 53-50 lead on Stafford's jumper with three seconds left

FOURTH QUARTER

- McNeill's layup at the 7:31 mark put the Trojans on top 58-52
- McDowell's layup with 5:42 remaining made it 63-55
- Wingate scored the next six, getting two free throws and two buckets from Clark to make it 63-61
- Taylor Hair's layup pushed the AU lead back to four with 2:53 left
- Sullivan knocked down three free throws to pull Wingate within one with 2:26 remaining
- Two Stafford free throws and a McDowell layup put the Trojans back on top by five with two minutes left
- The Bulldogs got no closer than five the rest of the way
