Bulldogs roll past Lions for third straight win

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs raced out to a 29-point halftime lead en route to an 87-50 victory over Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the SAC, while the Lions fall to 4-14 overall and 0-10 in league play.

- Wingate shot 46 percent from the field; Mars Hill shot 32 percent
- The 'Dogs hit six-of-21 threes; the Lions were seven-for-29 from deep
- The Bulldogs held a 65-24 rebounding advantage and 26-7 edge in second-chance points

FIRST QUARTER

- A Sullivan jumper gave the 'Dogs an early 8-3 lead
- Janette Hanni cut the lead to two with a triple at the 6:37 mark
- Wingate used a 7-0 run to take a 20-9 lead on a triple and layup from Wilson
- An AJ Davis layup in the final minute gave the Bulldogs a 22-11 advantage through one

SECOND QUARTER

- Wingate used a 16-0 run to extend the lead to 25 midway through the frame
- Hege had eight points in the spurt, with Sullivan adding four points
- A Hege triple made it 43-16 with 2:21 to go
- Buckets from Hege and Troutman pushed the lead to 31
- Maddie Gillie's bucket in the final seconds made it 47-18 at halftime

THIRD QUARTER

- Troutman's layup two minutes in put the 'Dogs back on top by 30
- A triple and layup from Barringer in the final minute gave WU a 64-32 lead

FOURTH QUARTER

- A three and a layup from Sullivan early in the fourth made it 69-32
- WU used a 9-1 run to push the lead to 43
- Davis had five points in the flurry, with a Mikayla Dyson triple making it 80-37 at the 5:33 mark
- Mars Hill got no closer than 35 the rest of the way
