Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs utilized a 44-10 run over a 15-minute stretch on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Newberry College 83-57 in Cuddy Arena in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action. The Bulldogs improve to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the SAC, while the Wolves drop to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in league play.
 
KEY STATS
 
- Wingate made 47 percent of its shots, while Newberry knocked down 40 percent of its shots
- The Bulldogs connected on six of 15 (40 percent) three-point range; the Wolves were five-for-17 (29 percent) from deep
- WU was 17-of-20 (85 percent) from the free throw line, while NC shot eight-for-14 (57 percent) from the charity stripe
- Wingate out-rebounded Newberry 41-31, but was out-scored 16-8 via second-chance points

- Bryanna Troutman recorded a game-high 16 points along with five rebounds
- Emily Hege added 13 points in 17 minutes
- Jaia Wilson logged 10 points in four-of-six shooting with three rebounds and three assists
- Bethel Ekperigha had nine points, six rebounds and two steals
- Lauren Sullivan pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds along with eight points on perfect shooting
 
FIRST QUARTER
 
- Newberry opened up with the game's first five points
- Hege's three-pointer and Troutman's layup tied the game right back up at 5
- Troutman later scored on a jumper to give Wingate its first lead at 9-8 with 4:33 left in the first
- Giiulia Bongiorno's three-pointer took the lead right back for Newberry with less than two minutes to go
- The 'Dogs scored five of the last six points in the period, as Ekperigha's jumper made it a 19-16 WU lead after 10 minutes
 
SECOND QUARTER
 
- A layup from Hannah Clark out of the quarter break gave Wingate a five-point lead 90 seconds in
- Newberry responded with a quick 6-0 run to take the lead at 22-21 with just over six minutes left
- The Wolves' lead grew to as much as five with a 28-23 advantage at the 3:35 mark
- Sullivan drained back-to-back threes to cap a 9-0 run over the final 1:33 of the half that turned a three-point deficit into a six-point lead for the 'Dogs
 
THIRD QUARTER
 
- Wingate scored the opening bucket of the second half, but a Faith Putz three-pointer brought the Newberry deficit to five less than a minute into the second half
- Five Bulldogs scored in their ensuing 12-0 run to break the game open to a 52-35 lead at the 5:41 mark
- After a Wolves' jumper broke run, the 'Dogs scored the next nine points unanswered to extend their lead 26 points with two minutes to go
- Hege's and-one capped the quarter for the Bulldogs, as they out-scored Newberry 28-6 in the third quarter
 
FOURTH QUARTER
 
- Laney Beale sent Wingate over the 30-point lead threshold 90 seconds into the final quarter at 71-41
- A 7-0 Bulldog run sent them to their largest lead of the game at 81-45 with less than five minutes to go
- The Wolves scored the final nine points of the game, but ran out of time, as Wingate moved to their third win in the SAC with an 83-57 final score
