Nationally-ranked Wingate sweeps double dual meet over UNCP and Chowan

Pembroke, N.C.----The Wingate University men's and women's swimming teams picked up three team victories over UNC Pembroke and Chowan in a double-dual meet Saturday at the Sue Walsh Swimming Pool on the UNCP campus. The Bulldog women defeated host UNCP and Chowan, while the Wingate men topped the CU Hawks.
 
The Bulldog men won 14-of-14 events over Chowan. The Wingate women claimed eight gold medals in 14 events against UNC Pembroke and Chowan. The nationally-ranked Wingate teams return to action next Saturday, traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne for a South Atlantic Conference dual meet. The first event is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
 
Wingate women's highlights
 
- Lucie Andrews and Marta Beesmans Barquero contributed to four victories each
- Individually, Andrews won the 100 Freestyle (53.11) and the 200 Freestyle (1:56.39)
- Beesmans Barquero won the 100 Backstroke (58.43) and the 200 Backstroke (2:06.87)
- Andrews and Beesmans Barquero helped Wingate win both Saturday relays
- The 'Dogs touched first in the 400 Medley Relay (3:55.40) and the 400 Free Relay (3:36.00)
 
Wingate men's highlights
 
- Ney Chagas Filho and Manoel Silva contributed to four victories each
- Individually, Chagas Filho won the 100 (50.58) and the 200 Backstroke (1:54.08)
- Silva touched first in the 50 Freestyle (20.80) and the 100 Freestyle (45.89)
- Chagas Filho and Silva helped Wingate win both Saturday relays
- WU won the 400 Medley Relay (3:26.47) and the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:08.61)
