Charlotte, N.C.----The No. 3 Wingate University men's cross country team finished fourth in the 30-team Royals Cross Country Challenge Gold Division Friday, outlasting five NCAA Division I teams along the way. Bulldog freshman
Emanuele Ferrari led the defending South Atlantic Conference and Southeast Region champions, posting an 8K time of 24:58.45. Queens University of Charlotte hosted the Royals Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park.
Wingate posted 123 points, finishing second among 14 NCAA Division II schools in the Gold Division field. NAIA powerhouse Milligan (Tenn.) won the Gold Division with 52 points. The Navy Blue and Vegas Gold-clad Bulldogs defeated Division I schools from the College of Charleston, Campbell, UNC Greensboro, South Carolina State and Bethune-Cookman.
