Wingate rallies for 70-66 victory at King

Bristol, Tenn.----The Wingate University Bulldogs outscored King University 23-14 in the fourth quarter Tuesday afternoon, rallying for a 70-66 victory in NCAA Division II women's basketball action. The Bulldogs improve to 7-3 overall, while the Tornado fall to 1-11 on the season.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 36 percent from the field, going six-for-15 from three-point range (40 percent)
- King shot 41 percent from the field, connecting on seven-of-20 shots from deep (35 percent)
- The Tornado held a 51-36 rebounding advantage and 20-10 edge in second-chance points
- The 'Dogs scored eight points off 20 King turnovers
- The Bulldogs were 14-for-17 at the free throw line; King went three-for-11

FIRST QUARTER

- An Anderson jumper and Hege three gave the 'Dogs an 11-7 lead midway through the first
- An Ashley Allen layup with 2:06 to go gave King a 12-11 advantage

SECOND QUARTER

- An Alayna Smith layup two minutes into the quarter put the Tornado on top 17-15
- Hege answered with a three to put the Bulldogs back on top
- Breedlove's layup pushed the lead to three at the midway point
- King scored the next nine, taking a 31-25 lead at the 2:59 mark on a Jhayda McKinney triple
- Brianna Dunbar's bucket with 50 seconds left extended the lead to eight
- Beale's jumper cut the halftime deficit to six at 35-29

THIRD QUARTER

- Hege's triple in the opening minute cut the lead to one
- Walker's jumper pushed the lead back to six at 44-38 with six minutes remaining
- Alexa Gramann's layup at the 2:57 mark made it 49-42
- Hege's jumper cut the lead to five, but a Le'Aije Ellington triple made it 52-44
- Anna Baraldi's three-point play with 23 seconds left cut the lead to five heading to the fourth

FOURTH QUARTER

- Ellington's triple 30 seconds into the fourth put the Tornado on top 55-47
- Beale's layup cut it to six, but Smith's jumper made it 57-49 with six minutes left
- A three and a layup from Hege, followed by Beale's layup made it a one-point game at the 4:32 mark
- Wilson buried a three to tie it at 59 with 3:38 remaining
- Clark's jumper a minute later gave Wingate the lead, while another Clark bucket made it 63-59
- Walker's jumper with 1:32 left cut the lead back to two
- Free throws from Breedlove and Wilson made it 65-61 with 41 seconds remaining
- Hege's free throw with 21 seconds left pushed the lead to five
- McKinney answered with a three to make it 66-64 with 15 seconds to go
- Clark answered with two free throws, but a Gramann bucket made it 68-66 with a second left
- Hege capped it with two free throws
