Hannah Colavita-Jones named SAC Defensive Player of the Week

Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University sophomore goalie Hannah Colavita-Jones has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning. Colavita-Jones earns the honor for the first time this season and second time in her career.

Colavita-Jones had a big week in goal, leading the Bulldogs to a pair of SAC wins. She allowed just three goals in 180 minutes of action, notching the first shutout in program history while notching 11 saves on the week.

Colavita-Jones started her week by allowing just one goal against Frostburg State. She followed by piling up six saves against Coker, as the 'Dogs rolled to a 5-0 victory in their first-ever home win and first-ever shutout. She followed by registering two more saves against Belmont Abbey, shutting out the Crusaders for the first 57 minutes of the game.

A preseason All-SAC honoree this season, Colavita-Jones ranked second in the nation with 7.29 saves per game last season, while ranking fifth in the SAC in save percentage.

The Bulldogs are back in action this week, traveling to Mount Olive Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start. Wingate returns home Saturday, hosting Limestone at 11 a.m.
