Lia Anderson’s career night leads Bulldogs past Trojans

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University sophomore forward Lia Anderson poured in a career-high 33 points Wednesday night, leading the Bulldogs to a 66-50 victory over Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. The Bulldogs improve to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the SAC, while the Trojans fall to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 54 percent from the field, going one-for-four from three-point range (25 percent)
- Anderson shot 31 percent from the field, connecting on one-of-21 from dep (5 percent)

FIRST QUARTER

- Anderson's bucket two minutes later made it 11-6
- The 'Dogs added a 6-0 run, taking a 17-6 advantage on a Massey layup and four Oliver free throws
- A Zaynah Preston bucket with 31 seconds left trimmed the lead to nine

SECOND QUARTER

- Wingate scored the first seven points of the second quarter to stretch the lead to 16
- Anderson had four points in the spurt, with Massey's bucket madding it 24-8 at the 7:08 mark
- An Alana Eakle triple with 3:52 remaining pulled Anderson back within nine
- Buckets from Oliver and Baraldi put the 'Dogs on top 30-19 with 1:43 to go
- Layups from Eakle and Ashlyn Sheridan in the final 70 seconds cut the halftime lead to 30-23

THIRD QUARTER

- Sheridan's layup at the 8:14 mark made it a three-point game
- Anderson countered with three straight buckets for the 'Dogs to make it 36-27 at the 5:30 mark
- Another bucket from Anderson pushed the Wingate lead back to double digits
- Layups from Oliver and Anderson gave the 'Dogs a 44-32 lead at the 2:42 mark
- Baraldi and Anderson scored in the final 90 seconds to give WU a 48-34 advantage heading to the fourth

FOURTH QUARTER

- A layup and three-point play from Anderson gave the Bulldogs a 55-38 lead with 7:36 to go
- Preston's bucket at the midway point cut the lead to 13
- Anderson and Oliver answered with layups to make it 61-46 at the 3:20 mark
- Oliver's three-point play with 2:03 left gave Wingate its largest lead of the night at 66-48
