Grieco and Clark lead #7 Wingate to 14-13 victory over #18 Maryville

Wingate, N.C.----The seventh-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs scored five of the seven goals Saturday afternoon, taking down #18 Maryville University 14-13 in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse action at Irwin Belk Stadium. Wingate improves to 2-1 overall, with both wins coming against top-20 opponents. The Saints fall to 2-1 on the year.

FIRST PERIOD

- Spence and Riley scored in the first three minutes to give the 'Dogs a 2-0 lead
- Ben Mickett got the Saints on the board at the 11:15 mark
- Spencer answered two minutes later to push the lead back to two
- Maryville scored the next three, taking a 4-3 advantage on a Mickett goal with 4:47 to go
- Riley scored off Clark's assist a minute later to tie it at four
- Zach Baker scored in the final minute to give the Saints a 5-4 lead

SECOND PERIOD

- Baker struck three minutes into the frame to push the lead to two
- Grieco scored 32 seconds later, but another Baker goal made it 7-5 at the 10:44 mark
- Spence answered with a goal 90 seconds later
- McMahon scored off Grieco's assist with 7:56 remaining to tie it at seven
- Justin Simonson put MU back on top with a goal at the 5:09 mark
- Grieco tied it with 1:03 to go, making it 8-8 at the half

THIRD PERIOD

- Clayton Cerett scored five minutes in to give the Saints a 10-8 advantage
- Grieco scored at the 3:24 mark off a Spence assist to cut the lead to one
- Cerett answered da minute later to make it 11-9
- Grieco's goal at the 1:35 mark made it 11-10 heading to the final frame

FOURTH PERIOD

- Clark scored off Riley's assist 92 seconds into the fourth to tie it at 11
- Clark struck again off another Riley assist at the 10:13 mark to put the 'Dogs on top
- Simonson tied it at 12 with a goal with 9:21 to go
- Clark answered a minute later off Grieco's assist to make it 13-12
- Mitchell Kaye tied it at 13 with 6:16 remaining
- Clark again had the answer, scoring the winner off a Samson assist with 5:41 remaining
