#17 ‘Dogs take down Flagler and #18 Saint Leo on day one of Old Coast Classic

St. Augustine, Fla.----The 17th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs opened up the weekend in impressive fashion, taking down Flagler 4-0 and #17 Saint Leo 5-4 in NCAA Division II softball action on day one of the Old Coast Classic. Wingate moves to 6-3 overall while Flagler falls to 6-2 and Saint Leo moves to 4-1.

- Wingate out-hit Flagler 6-4
- The 'Dogs had all four extra-base hits with both homers
- The Saints committed three of the four errors
- Flagler left seven on base; Wingate stranded six

- Hali Scott tossed a complete game shutout, striking out eight while allowing four singles
- Hannah Stevens and Ragan Liles each connected on homers

- Hobgood led off the game with a double

- She allowed just four singles while striking out eight and walking one in the complete game
- Rachel Hester took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in four innings of work

- Wingate did all its damage in the third inning
- Thomas led things off with a triple, then scored on an RBI single from Liles
- Kale followed with a two-run triple to make it 3-0
- A two-run homer from Maness gave the Bulldogs a five-run lead
- A Madyson Coe RBI single in the bottom of the frame got Saint Leo on the board

FIFTH INNING

- A Hope Epps RBI double pulled made it 5-3

SEVENTH INNING

- Hailey Beuer's RBI single pulled the Lions within a run
- Saint Leo had the bases loaded with the tying run at third and winning run at second
- Raechel Cutcher struck out Briana Neal to end the game

WRAPUP

- Lily Huneycutt got the win, allowing a run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings of work
- Cutcher earned the save, striking out three in 2 1/3 innings
- Kayla Betts took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings
