#8 Wingate closes out regular season with 20-9 victory at Coker

Hartsville, S.C.----The eighth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs closed out the regular season in style Wednesday afternoon, scoring 13 of the first 14 goals en route to a 20-9 victory over Coker University in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action. The Bulldogs improve to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 6-8 overall and 4-5 in league play.

- Danny Riley had five goals and three assists to lead the attack
- Sean Clark piled up four goals and four assists

FIRST PERIOD

- Moran scored off a Grant assist 26 seconds in
- Clark and Samson added goals off assists from Riley and Grieco to make it 3-0 at the 10:14 mark
- Grieco's goal with 2:11 remaining put the 'Dogs on top 4-1

SECOND PERIOD

- Wingate outscored Coker 8-0 in the second frame
- Riley started the scoring 97 seconds into the period
- Riley scored twice in a seven-second span off assists from Clark and Karnich to make it 7-1
- Clark's goal 26 seconds later pushed the lead to seven
- Grieco scored Wingate's fifth goal of the frame off a Riley assist at the 10:56 mark
- McMahon scored off Clark's assist with 4:35 remaining to make it 10-1
- Clark found the back of the net two minutes later to push the lead to double figures
- Riley's goal of Clark's assist gave the Bulldogs a 12-1 halftime lead

THIRD PERIOD

- Grieco scored three minutes in to put the 'Dogs on top by 12
- Clark scored off a Riley assist at the 8:53 mark to make it 14-3
- Riley scored off Clark's assist a minute later to extend the lead back to 12
- Grieco scored off a Magyar assist with a minute remaining to make it 16-5

FOURTH PERIOD

- Woolfe scored just over a minute into the final frame to give WU a 17-6 advantage
- Moran scored off a Spence assist at the 7:40 mark to make it 18-7
- Samson scored off Castle's assist a minute later to extend the lead to 12
- Cottage scored the final goal of the day off a Castle assist, making it 20-9

UP NEXT

- Wingate will be the number three seed in the SAC Tournament
- The Bulldogs will host a quarterfinal contest Saturday at 3 p.m. against Coker
- The winner advances to the semifinals Wednesday
- The championship game will be Sunday, April 28 at the Matthews Sportsplex at 4 p.m.
