Feeling Elite! #7 Wingate downs #18 Angelo State to advance to first-ever National Quarterfinals

Altamonte Springs, Fla.----The fourth-seeded and seventh-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs continue to make history in 2024, becoming the first team in Wingate or SAC history to advance to the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II women's tennis tournament. The Bulldogs went 4-1 in singles play Monday afternoon, prevailing 4-2 over #18 Angelo State to advance to Tuesday's national quarterfinal match. Wingate improves to 22-2 on the season, while the Rambelles end their season at 21-4.

DOUBLES

- Angelo State won 6-3 at number two doubles and 6-2 at number three doubles
- Eva Siska and Suzuka Sambyakugari were tied 4-4 at one doubles when the point was clinched
- The Rambelles took a 1-0 lead into singles play

SINGLES

- Fernanda Castillo prevailed 6-4, 6-3 at four singles to tie the match at one
- 18th singles win of the season for Castillo, moving to 18-6 on the year
- Sambyakugari put the 'Dogs on top 2-1 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at three singles
- The junior moves to 14-6 in singles play this season
- Angelo State won a second-set tiebreaker at six singles to win that match and tie it at 2-2
- Claudia Vallejos rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win at five singles to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead
- The freshman is now 17-6 in singles play this year
- Siska won the clincher in an epic duel at one singles
- The SAC Player of the Year rallied for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory over the nation's fifth-ranked singles player
- Siska is now 19-2 at number one singles this season after winning the clincher
- Chloe Kosmrlj led 4-3 in the third set at number two singles when the match was clinched

- Wingate is back in action Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the National Quarterfinals in Orlando
- The Bulldogs will take on fifth-seeded and eighth-ranked Midwestern State
- The Winner is on to the national semifinals Thursday at 9 a.m.
- The national title match is slated for Friday, May 24 at 1 p.m.
- Every match will take place at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
