RESULTS | 2024 Wingate Super Sprint Kickoff results

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University men's triathlon club team earned an impressive 130-72 victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) College in the Bulldog Super Sprint Kickoff Sunday. The hosts claimed the top nine individual spots to secure the triumph.

Junior Jack Spence led the way, opening his season with the individual victory, thanks to his finals time of 21:47. Senior Martin Garcia and graduate student Jake Baugher rounded out the podium sweep, finishing second (21:51) and third (22:08), respectively.

The Bulldog Super Sprint Kickoff meet marked its third anniversary this year. The competition began with a 300-yard pool swim. Baugher got off to a strong start, leading the Bulldogs into the five-mile bike ride. The 28 competitors concluded the Super Sprint Kickoff with a 1.25 mile run.

Wingate head coach Nick Radkewich expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, particularly highlighting the top finishers. "First and foremost, it was nice to have a strong team from Emmanuel on campus today," Radkewich said. "I thought our men raced very well. I was surprised by the speed they showed at the top end. We were excited to see Jack, Martin and Jake finish on the podium. We were also pleased with freshman Isaac Lamprecht's fourth-place finish."

The Bulldogs' success was bolstered by strong performances from all team members, with both Wingate and Emmanuel student-athletes leading the pack on the challenging bike course. Radkewich also commended sophomores Oliver Nissen and Hannes Venter, who made impressive comebacks after difficult seasons last year. "We were happy to see Oliver and Hannes starting off this year very strong," Radkewich said.

Next, the Bulldogs will compete in the Davidson Collegiate Cup presented by Trane Technologies on September 15 in Davidson, N.C. The men's and women's action begins bright and early at 8 a.m.
