Bulldogs ride balanced attack to 69-63 victory over Catawba

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had five players score in double figures Wednesday night, prevailing 69-63 over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate wins its ninth straight SAC contest, moving to 10-4 overall and 9-1 in league play, while the Indians fall to 9-6 overall and 7-4 in the SAC.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 42 percent from the field, going two-for-eight from three-point range (25 percent)
- Catawba shot 38 percent from the field, connecting on eight-of-34 from deep (24 percent)

FIRST QUARTER

- A Beale layup and two Anderson free throws gave Wingate an early 6-2 lead
- A Nala Baker triple at the 4:39 mark put the Indians on top 10-8
- The Bulldogs closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 19-11 advantage
- Massey had four points in the spurt, with Anderson adding a three-point play

SECOND QUARTER

- A Bacon three-point play and Baraldi jumper stretched the lead to 11 at 24-13
- Mary Spry's layup with seven minutes left trimmed the lead to seven
- WU scored the next eight, getting five points from Bacon and an Oliver triple to go on top 32-17
- Another 9-0 lead extended the lead to 22 at the 2:44 mark
- Baraldi had five points in the flurry; Massey added four, making it 41-19
- An Imani Williams jumper in the final minute cut the lead to 16 at 45-29

THIRD QUARTER

- Two Beale layups and a Bacon bucket put the 'Dogs on top 51-32 at the 7:54 mark
- A triple from Williams cut the lead to 11 with 4:49 to go
- Free throws from Oliver and Bacon gave WU a 57-42 lead with 2:35 to go
- A Williams layup in the final minute cut the lead to 11 at 57-46

FOURTH QUARTER

- Oliver's jumper in the opening minute gave the Bulldogs a 59-46 advantage
- A Williams layup cut the lead to nine with 6:22 remaining
- Buckets from Beale and Anderson stretched the lead back to 13 at 67-54
- Catawba scored the next nine, making it 67-63 with 29 seconds left on a Saniya Wilson jumper
- Baraldi made two free throws with 18 seconds left to make the final margin 69-63
