‘Dogs ride defense to 16th straight victory

Wingate, N.C.----The 20th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs piled up 13 blocks Tuesday night, holding Catawba to a -.089 hitting percentage in a 3-0 victory in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate won by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-12 to improve to 17-1 overall and 10-0 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 5-8 overall and 2- 6 in league play.

- Wingate had 41 kills and 10 errors in 105 attacks, hitting .295
- Catawba had 16 kills and 25 errors in 101 swings to hit -.089

- A kill and an ace from Johnson gave the 'Dogs an early 4-1 lead

- WU used a 7-0 run, getting two kills and a block from Saye to go on top 19-7
- A Saye block and Woodring kill made it 21-9
- Morland's kill made it 24-13; another Morland kill ended the frame

SET TWO

- A kill and a block from Morland gave the Bulldogs an 8-6 lead
- Two Hoffman aces and a Morland kill made it 12-7
- A Lillie Kate Rogers ace pulled Catawba within two at 13-11
- Wingate scored the next five, getting two Saye kills to take an 18-11 advantage
- Two Saye kill sand a Griffin kill made it 21-12
- A kill and a block from Addie Rossum gave the 'Dogs a 24-15 lead
- Tanner's kill ended the frame

SET THREE

- The Bulldogs used a 9-0 run to take a 12-4
- Johnson had three kills in the flurry; Maggie Fillauer added three aces
- A kill and a block from Saye, along with a Tanner kill made it 18-6
- Kills from Saye and Van Heyst, along with a Johnson block put the 'Dogs on top 23-11
- Tanner's kill ended the match
