Bulldogs earn 132-130 triumph over Royals in Friday meet

Charlotte, N.C.----Wingate University freshman Artur Vilela de Queiroz won three individual events, leading the Bulldogs to a 132-130 triumph over Queens University of Charlotte in the Levine Center Friday afternoon. The visiting Bulldogs earn their second consecutive dual meet victory over the host Royals.
 
Vilela de Queiroz earned gold medals in the 100 Breaststroke (55.45), the 200 Breaststroke (2:03.59) and the 200 Individual Medley (1:50.18). He earned a silver medal in the 200 Medley Relay (1:29.43). Junior Damir Ipkaev won both distance events. He touched first in the 1000 Freestyle (9:28.94) and the 500 Freestyle (4:33.82).
 
Junior team captain Mike Topchanalis won the 100 Butterfly (49.14), while sophomore Yassine Sebbata won the 200 Freestyle (1:37.76). Sebbata had a busy day, collecting one gold medal, two silver medals and one bronze medal.
 
Senior team captain Ney Chagas Filho finished second in the 100 Backstroke (49.35) and the 200 Backstroke (1:48.82). Chagas Filho added two relay silver medals to his Friday haul. Sophomore Fernando Dehaudt earned silver medals in the 1000 Freestyle (9:34.49) and the 500 Freestyle (4:36.22).
 
Graduate student team captain Joel Thompson finished second in the 200 Individual Medley (1:53.06) and third in the 500 Freestyle (4:40.64). On the afternoon, Wingate collected seven gold medals, nine silver medals and seven bronze medals.
