Nationally-ranked Wingate teams compete in SAC championships Saturday

Wingate, N.C.----The nationally-ranked Wingate cross country teams are competing in the South Atlantic Conference championship meets Saturday in Greeneville, Tennessee. The Bulldog men start their quest for a SAC title at 9 a.m., while the WU women start at 10:15 a.m. Both teams are four-time defending champions. The Wingate men are ranked No. 2 and the Bulldog women are No. 6 in the NCAA Division II, according to the latest USTFCCCA polls.
 
Last time on the XC course
 
MEN: Wingate finished fifth in the 19-team Royals Cross Country Challenge Gold Division Friday, October 10. Freshman Justin Rau led the defending South Atlantic Conference and Southeast Region champions, posting a personal-best 8K time of 25:04.23.
 
WOMEN: Wingate finished 10th in the 18-team Royals Cross Country Challenge Gold Division Friday. Junior Evie Brooks led the defending South Atlantic Conference and Southeast Region champions, posting a personal-best 5K time of 17:28.96. 
 
Looking back at the 2024 SAC championships
 
MEN: Wingate had five of the top eight runners and seven of the top 10 to finish first with 19 points. Anderson was a distant second with 61 points. Ten Bulldogs started the race and 10 WU harriers made the three All-SAC teams. Will Aitken won the individual title.
 
WOMEN: Wingate won its eighth SAC championship by placing five runners in the league meet's top 11. Wingate had 27 points, defeating Catawba by 34 points. Grace Burrell and Laila Abouzaid finished second and third, respectively. Seven Bulldogs made the three All-SAC teams.
