Lipscomb named SAC Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season

Rock Hill, S.C.----For the second straight week and third time in the last four weeks, Wingate University freshman defensive end Elihu Lipscomb has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon.

Lipscomb once again led the defensive charge as the Bulldogs closed out the regular season with their sixth straight victory, taking down Mars Hill 37-22 to punch their ticket to the NCAA D2 play-offs for the sixth time in the last eight years.

Lipscomb had three sacks on the night, while adding three QB hurries as well. He was part of a WU defense that registered eight sacks against the Lions on the day, forcing a pair of MHU turnovers. The three sacks went for a loss of 37 yards for the day.

Lipscomb leads the Bulldogs and ranks second in the SAC with seven sacks on the year, collecting nine tackles for loss. The freshman also has seven QB hurries, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a pair of touchdowns.

Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting Benedict at 2 p.m. in the opening round of the NCAA D2 play-offs. The Bulldogs are hosting an opening-round play-off game for the second straight year.
