Wingate punches ticket to SAC Tourney semis by taking down Bears in PKs

Hickory, N.C.----The seventh-seeded Wingate University Bulldogs went into Hickory and knocked off second-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne University, prevailing 4-3 in penalty kicks in the quarterfinals of the South Atlantic Conference women's soccer tournament Saturday evening. Wingate moves to 9-7-1 overall, advancing to the SAC Tourney semifinals Friday in Matthews. The Bears go to 10-4-3 on the season.

SECOND HALF

- Wingate struck twice in an eight-minute span to take the lead
- Wahrenberg scored the first goal in the 52nd minute
- Ensalaco had the assist on the equalizer
- Ensalaco then put the 'Dogs on top in the 60th minute
- Her goal off Maino's assist gave Wingate a 2-1 advantage
- The Bears tied it up five minutes later
- Katie Durham scored off a Lucia Hidalgo assist to make it 2-2

OVERTIMES

- The Bears took five of the eight shots in the 20 minutes of overtime
- Each team put one shot on frame

PENALTY KICKS

- Maino went first for Wingate, with her shot hitting the bottom of the crossbar and just missing
- LR took the lead when Ava Hartman converted her PK
- Sydnee Barndt got the 'Dogs on the board by converting her kick
- Alexis Cagno put the Bears back on top by converting her chance
- Ensalaco buried her PK to make it 2-2
- Durham missed her shot wide right for the Bears, keeping it at 2-2
