Bulldogs take down Eagles 79-70 Saturday

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had five players score in double figures Saturday afternoon, prevailing 79-70 over Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the SAC, while the Eagles fall to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 42 percent from the field, going 12-for-28 from three-point range (43 percent)
- C-N shot 40 percent from the field, going seven-for-24 from deep (29 percent)

- A pair of Jack Browder threes gave the Eagles a 15-9 advantage with 14 minutes left
- WU used a 13-4 run to take a 22-19 lead, getting eight points from Pack and a Miller three
- A Caiden Botts layup at the 7:35 mark gave Carson-Newman a 27-25 lead
- Jayden Street's layup two minutes later gave the 'Dogs a 30-28 advantage
- An Isaac Stamper triple put C-N back on top by two at the 4:27 mark
- WU scored the next seven, with a Miller triple making it 39-35 with 1:50 remaining
- A Matt Bilbrey triple and two Browder free throws with 16 seconds left tied it at 41

SECOND HALF

- A Browder triple gave Carson-Newman a 50-47 lead four minutes into the second half
- A Browder free throw stretched the lead to five at the 13:55 mark
- Wingate scored the next 11 to take a 60-54 lead with 11:28 to go
- Vick, Godley and Pack each knocked down a three in the flurry
- A Braden Ilic free throw at the 8:40 mark pulled the Eagles back within three
- Triples from Vick and Campbell put the 'Dogs on top 66-59 with seven minutes left
- A Vick layup and Godley jumper made it 70-61 at the 5:14 mark
- Bilbrey buried a three with 4:20 to go to pull C-N back within four at 70-66
- Godley answered with a big triple at the 2:48 mark to make it 73-66
- Vick's putback with 1:09 to go put the 'Dogs on top by nine
- Two Miller free throws with 42 seconds remaining made it 79-68
