Bulldogs and Cavs split SAC doubleheader

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs blanked visiting UVA Wise 7-0 in game one of Friday's South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader, while the Cavaliers bounced back for a 2-1 victory in game two. Wingate moves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while UVA Wise goes to 11-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.

- The Bulldogs had the lone extra-base hit

- Alex Naylor drew a two-out walk, then scored on an RBI double from Evans
- Courville followed with an RBI single to make it 7-0

WRAPUP

- Morton got the win, moving to 2-0 on the year
- He allowed just two singles in seven innings, striking out 10 without walking a batter
- Morton retired the first nine batters before allowing a leadoff single in the fourth
- He ended that frame with back-to-back strikeouts
- An infield single in the seventh was erased by back-to-back groundouts to finish off his night
- Morton has allowed just one run in 17 1/3 innings in three starts with 25 strikeouts and one walk
- Spencer Powell took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings, striking out four
