#5 Wingate rolls to 18-6 victory at Mount Olive

Mount Olive, N.C.----The fifth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs outscored Mount Olive 12-2 in the second half Wednesday afternoon, cruising to an 18-6 victory in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse action. Wingate moves to 4-0 on the year, while the Trojans fall to 1-4 overall.

FIRST PERIOD

- Benjamin Vanderkley tied it at one with a goal at the 8:30 mark
- Spence scored off Goss's assist two minutes later to put WU back on top
- Bubba Bowen tied it at two with two minutes remaining
- Butrico answered a minute later, scoring off another Goss assist to make it 3-2

SECOND PERIOD

- Butrico started the scoring in the second frame off a Spence assist two minutes in
- Magyar scored at the 11:13 mark to put the 'Dogs on top 5-2
- Cifreo pushed the lead to four off a Goss assist with 6:39 remaining
- Vanderkley cut the lead to three with a goal at the 2:19 mark
- Chase Penner's goal with 50 seconds left made it 6-4 heading to halftime

THIRD PERIOD

- The Bulldogs scored the first six goals of the half, starting with a Spence goal 2:23 in
- Butrico scored 45 seconds later off Clark's assist to make it 8-4
- Papach's goal with nine minutes left stretched the lead to five
- Moran scored a minute later to put the 'Dogs in double figures
- Murray scored one minute later off a Clark assist, making it 11-4
- Moran capped the spurt with a goal at the 4:19 mark, giving WU an eight-goal advantage
- Vanderkley scored at the 1:01 mark to make it 12-5
- Murray scored off Papach's assist with eight seconds left to make it 13-5

FOURTH PERIOD

- Papach scored 1:12 into the final frame to extend the lead to nine
- Samson's goal off a Butrico assist pushed the advantage to double figures
- Hudson Karasek answered with a goal at the 11:41 mark, making it 15-6
- Moran's goal with 10:03 remaining pushed the lead back to 10
- Olvany scored his first goal with 7:51 to go
- Nerone capped the scoring at the 5:13 mark off a McKenzie assist, making it 18-8
