‘Dogs erase seven-goal fourth-quarter deficit in thrilling triple OT win against Newberry

Wingate, N.C.----Trailing 11-4 with 13 minutes remaining in regulation, the 19th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs closed out regulation by scoring outscoring Newberry 8-1 over the final 12:55 to send it to overtime, while winning in triple overtime to improve to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the SAC. The Wolves fall to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.

FIRST QUARTER

- Blakely's goal off a Millard assist at the 3:56 mark tied it at two

SECOND QUARTER

- Newberry scored three goals in a 90-second span, taking a 5-2 lead at the 11:22 mark on a Hawkes goal
- Scherer scored a minute later to cut the lead to two
- A Dakota Beasley goal with 49 seconds remaining gave the Wolves a 7-3 halftime lead

THIRD QUARTER

- Scherer scored two minutes in to pull the Bulldogs within three
- NC scored the next four, taking an 11-4 lead on a Nicole Dinapoli goal with 5:55 to go

FOURTH QUARTER

- Wilgeroth started the scoring in the final frame with 12:55 to go
- Weber scored a minute later off a Wilgeroth assist to make it a five-goal game
- Solero scored off Watson's assist with 8:44 remaining to make it 11-7
- Watson scored 35 seconds later to make it a three-goal game
- Millard's goal at the 7:24 mark made it 11-9
- Watson scored a minute later off Solero's assist to pull Wingate within one
- Hawkes answered at the 5:55 mark to extend the Newberry lead back to two

- Newberry got two shots in the opening 80 seconds, but neither on target
- Scarfogliero had a chance to end it, but her shot was saved at the 1:16 mark
- Emma Jobs had a chance for the Wolves, but Boone was there for the save with six seconds left

THIRD OVERTIME

- Newberry turned it over on the opening possession, and Wingate was able to clear
- Solero drew a foul, earning the free-position chance
- She converted with 52 seconds left, giving the Bulldogs their only lead of the day
