Bulldogs pick up 6-5 victory at #23 Mount Olive

Mount Olive, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs went on the road and picked up a big 6-5 victory at #23 Mount Olive Tuesday afternoon in NCAA Division II baseball action. The Bulldogs improve to 15-14 overall, while the Trojans fall to 20-10 on the season.

- Mount Olive out-hit Wingate 11-7
- The Trojans had three of the four extra-base hits including the lone homer
- The Bulldogs left seven on base; UMO stranded six
- Each team had a stolen base
- The 'Dogs had the lone error in the contest
- WU Pitching struck out four without a walk; UMO had seven strikeouts and five walks

KEY BULLDOGS

- Breon Ishmael drove in three runs to lead the offense
- Jalen Evans was two-for-four with an RBI and two runs scored
- Gavin Groppuso also drove in a run
- Jake Courville went two-for-three with a run scored
- Evan Barefoot contributed a hit and scored two runs
- Riley Treadaway allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings of work, striking out four

- An RBI double from Jon Howard got the Trojans on the board in the bottom of the frame

- A walk and Barefoot single put runners on the corners for the Bulldogs
- An RBI single from Evans pushed the lead back to three
- Barefoot scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead
- Ishmael's RBI groundout put the 'Dogs on top 6-1

FIFTH INNING

- A solo homer from Lane McLean cut the lead to four

SIXTH INNING

- Howard's RBI double made it a three-run game
- Anthony Mitta followed with an RBI single to make it 6-4

SEVENTH INNING

- Howard's RBI single made it a one-run game

WRAPUP

- Treadaway got the win, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out four
- Harvey notched the save, working a perfect ninth inning
- Lane Roberson took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings of work
