Brooke Spurway has earned national accolades from the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA). Spurway earned NCATA honorable mention Freshman of the Week accolades.
Spurway played a huge role in Wingate's dominant victory at Newberry over the weekend, leading the 'Dogs to a 228-25-92.5 victory over the Wolves. The victory moved the Bulldogs to 3-1 in year two of the program.
Spurway competed in 10 heats plus the team event for the Bulldogs at Newberry. Her performance was highlighted by a near-perfect 9.3 out of 9.55 in the Open Tumbling pass. She also contributed to season-high scores in four different heats with a 9.25 in the Compulsory Toss, an 8.65/9.9 in the Synchronized Pyramid, an 8.5/9.0 in the 450 Salto Toss, and her 9.3/9.55 in the Open Tumbling heat.
In the team event, Spurway serves as the main base in the acro sequence, midlayers a straddle pyramid, bases two tosses, and performs 5 synchronized tumbling passes (with SVs of 9.0, 8.75, and 8.0).
Spurway and the Bulldogs return to cation next Friday, March 14, hosting Mars Hill at 6 p.m.
