#9 Bulldogs ride dominant second half to 17-7 win at Catawba

Salisbury, N.C.----The ninth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs outscored Catawba College 11-2 in the second half Wednesday night, prevailing 17-7 in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action. Wingate improves to 9-2 overall and 4-2 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in league play.

FIRST PERIOD

- Tanner Stout's goal eight minutes in gave Catawba a 2-0 lead

- A Jordan Dash goal at the 4:30 mark put the Indians on top 3-1
- Spence answered a minute later to cut the lead to one
- Goss scored in the final minute to tie it at three

SECOND PERIOD

- Clark scored eight minutes into the second, giving the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead
- Clark scored off a Spence assist a minute later to stretch the lead to two
- Peyton Turner answered with a goal to cut the lead to one
- Spence's goal at the 3:05 mark gave WU a 6-4 advantage
- Jack Mercer's goal with 90 seconds left made it a one-goal game at halftime

THIRD PERIOD

- Moran scored off a Spence assist 32 seconds into the second half to make it 7-5
- Grant scored a minute later to extend the lead to three
- Butrico scored off a Papach assist 50 seconds later to make it 9-5
- Frank Cetrone's goal with 9:58 to go cut the lead back to three
- Samson answered with a goal off a Cifreo assist
- Butrico scored off a Spence assist at the 5:30 mark made it 11-6
- Goss scored off a Samson assist 33 seconds later to give the 'Dogs a six-goal lead
- Samson scored with four minutes left to make it 13-6
- Moran's capped the eight-goal frame with a goal at the 1:33 mark

FOURTH PERIOD

- Butrico's goal at the 11:37 mark put the 'Dogs on top 15-6
- Butrico struck again off a McGivern assist with 9:57 to go
- Clark capped the scoring with 4:26 remaining off a Moran assist
