Bulldogs roll to 6-0 victory over Cobras in season opener

Box Score Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs opened the 2025 season in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 6-0 victory over Coker University in South Atlantic Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Graham Gill Field. Wingate starts the season 1-0, while the Cobras fall to 0-1 overall.

KEY STATS

- Wingate out-shot Coker 28-8
- The 'Dogs held a 14-4 edge in shots on goal
- The 'Dogs took eight of the 13 corners on the day

KEY BULLDOGS

- Emma George scored a pair of goals
- Laela Brown had a goal and two assists in her collegiate debut
- Grace Gerner also notched a goal and two assists
- Lauren Montgomery and Erika Neuhoff added a goal apiece
- Samantha Pearson handed out a pair of assists
- Svenja Brandt notched four saves to collect a shutout in her WU debut

FIRST QUARTER

- The 'Dogs wasted no time getting on the board, striking just over two minutes into the season
- Gerner scored the opening goal, with Brown notching the assist
- Brown scored her first Wingate goal with just under five minutes left in the frame
- Pearson had the assist that put the 'Dogs on top 2-0

THIRD QUARTER

- The Bulldogs exploded for four goals in the third frame to take a six-goal lead
- George scored three minutes after halftime off a Gerner assist to make it 3-0
- Neuhoff scored her first goal off Brown's assist just two minutes later
- George struck again less than two minutes after that off a Gerner assist to make it 5-0
- Montgomery capped the scoring on the day with 1:30 left in the quarter
- Pearson had the assist on the final goal of the day

- Wingate is back in action Saturday, traveling to Kutztown for an 11 a.m. start
- The Bulldogs are at Frostburg State Sunday, Sept. 14 for a 1 p.m. start
