Wingate rides big fourth quarter to sixth straight victory

Emory, Va.----The Wingate University Bulldogs outscored Emory & Henry 29-13 in the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon, prevailing 75-69 in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action. Wingate wins its sixth straight, improving to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in the SAC, while the Wasps fall to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in league play.

- Two Gracyn Hall free throws gave E&H a 14-6 advantage at the midway point
- Harvey's bucket with 3:13 remaining pulled Wingate back within four
- A Kinley Painter triple gave Emory & Henry a 19-12 advantage

SECOND QUARTER

- A West three pushed the lead to eight a minute into the second quarter
- The 'Dogs scored the next eight, getting four points from Beale to tie it at 22
- Hali Harris's jumper at the 4:21 mark gave the Wasps a 29-22 advantage
- A Merceron jumper and Beale three-point play cut the lead back to two
- Isaac's triple with 2:25 remaining put the 'Dogs on top 32-31
- A Julie Matheson triple put Emory & Henry back on top by two
- Montiel's layup with four seconds left gave Wingate a 36-34 halftime lead

THIRD QUARTER

- A Dot Mills three with 5:21 to go gave the Wasps a 47-43 lead
- Merceron's layup with three minutes to go cut the lead to two
- E&H scored the next seven, taking a 56-47 lead on a Harris layup

FOURTH QUARTER

- A West triple in the opening minute gave the Wasps a 59-50 lead
- Buckets from Bacon and Merceron pulled the Bulldogs within five with 5:51 to go
- A West three pushed the lead back to eight at the midway point
- A Chavis layup made it 64-61 at the 4:21 mark
- Camori Veal's jumper with four minutes left gave the Wasps a five-point cushion
- Buckets from Bacon and Merceron made it a one-point game with three minutes left
- A Harris layup gave Emory & Henry a 68-65 lead with 2:34 remaining
- A Bacon layup and Beale triple put the 'Dogs on top 70-68 with two minutes left
- Beale knocked down another big three to extend the lead to five with 1:21 to go
