No. 11 Wingate is tied for ninth after 18 holes of the Hurricane Invite Monday

Albany, Ga.----The No. 11 Wingate University men's golf team is tied for ninth place after the first round of the Hurricane Invitational Monday. The Bulldogs shot a nine-over-par 297 in the first round. Georgia Southwestern University is hosting this event at the Doublegate Country Club in Albany.
 
Wingate is tied with Georgia College for ninth place entering Tuesday's final round. Host Georgia Southwestern leads the 14-team field with a five-under-par 283. Lincoln Memorial is one stroke back at four-under-par 284.
 
Individually, Bulldog sophomore Mattia D'Errico is tied for 14th place at even-par 72. D'Errico posted two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars on Monday. Only four shots separate Wingate's five golfers Monday. Lincoln Memorial's Harry Dickins is the individual leader at four-under-par 68.

Hurricane Invitational tournament officials have shortened this year's event to 36 holes. The 14 participating teams and 81 student-athletes in the Hurricane Invitational will begin the second and final round with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
