Bowen Powell has been named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, while junior right-hander
Chad Harvey is the SAC Pitcher of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning. Both earn Player of the Week accolades for the first time in their careers.
Powell and Harvey led the way as the Bulldogs went 2-1 on their Florida trip to open the season. Wingate piled up 35 runs in the three contests, picking up victories at Lynn and Nova Southeastern.
Powell went five-for-13 over the weekend, hitting .385 with a double, homer and eight RBI, scoring five runs. He also drew five walks, posting a .556 on-base percentage to go along with his .692 slugging percentage. Powell started the season by blasting a grand slam at Lynn on Friday in the 9-2 victory. He had two more hits, two more RBI and two more runs scored at Barry on Saturday. Powell capped his weekend with a double and two more RBI in the victory at Nova Southeastern.
Harvey started the year in impressive fashion, going five innings without allowing an earned run at Barry. He struck out six on the day, allowing just three hits and one unearned run. Harvey retired the final 11 batters he faced to cap his first start of the year.
The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend, hosting a three-game series against Millersville. The series starts with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m., then wraps up Sunday at 1 p.m.
