#4 Catawba rides late offense to victory over Wingate in series opener

Salisbury, N.C.----The fourth-ranked Catawba College Indians used a seven-run seventh inning to pick up a 9-2 victory over visiting Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference baseball action Friday night. The Indians improve to 22-4 overall and 14-2 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 22-6 overall and 12-4 in league play.

- Each team had four extra-base hits including a homer apiece
- The Indians left 10 on base; the 'Dogs stranded nine
- Catawba pitching struck out 13 and walked five; WU had four strikeouts, eight walks and four hit batters

- Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for Catawba
- A Brandon Crabtree sacrifice fly tied it at two
- Sam Hunter's RBI single gave the Indians the lead
- A three-run double from Jake Dunlap made it 7-2
- Ty Hubbard added an RBI double to extend the lead to six

WRAPUP

- Seth Sharpe got the win, tossing three shutout frames, allowing three hits while striking out one
- Carson Starnes took the loss, allowing a pair of runs
