Bulldogs blast four homers in 19-3 victory over Emory & Henry

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs piled up 20 hits including four homers Friday evening, cruising to a 19-3 victory over Emory & Henry in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. The Bulldogs improve to 24-8 overall and 14-5 in the SAC, while the Wasps fall to 8-21 overall and 5-14 in league play.

- The 'Dogs had nine of the 11 extra-base hits including four of the five homers
- The Wasps left six on base; the Bulldogs stranded five
- Wingate had all five stolen bases

KEY BULLDOGS

- Tanner McCammon went four-for-five with two homer, five RBI and three runs scored
- Gavin Groppuso was three-for-three with a homer, four RBI, three runs and two stolen bases
- Bradley Hart went two-for-three with a double, three RBI and two runs scored
- Jalen Evans added three hits including a double, driving in two and scoring twice
- Neil Griffin collected two hits with a  double, two RBI and a run scored
- Will Farrell added a pinch-hit homer
- Bowen Powell and Ben Karpowicz each notched a hit, RBI and two runs scored
- Jake Courville was two-for-three with a double and two runs scored
- Reed Benamati also scored a run
- Chad Harvey allowed two earned runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out three

FIRST INNING

- A Kyle Fields homer gave the Wasps an early 2-0 lead
- Wingate answered with seven runs in the bottom of the frame
- Groppuso and Powell started the inning with a single and walk, then both stole  a base
- McCammon's RBI single started the scoring
- Karpowicz followed with an RBI single to tie it at two
- A two-run double from Evans put the 'Dogs on top
- Hart followed with a two-run double to make it 6-2
- Groppuso's RBI single gave the Bulldogs a five-run lead

THIRD INNING

- A Hart single and Groppuso walk put two on for the 'Dogs
- Powell's RBI single made it 8-2
- McCammon followed with a three-run homer to stretch the lead to nine

FOURTH INNING

- Singles from Griffin and Evans started the WU fourth
- Groppuso launched a three-run shot to right to make it 14-2

FIFTH INNING

- A Karpowicz walk and Courville single put two on for the 'Dogs in the fifth
- Griffin's two-run double gave the Bulldogs a 14-run cushion
- Hart added a sacrifice fly to make it 17-2

SIXTH INNING

- Farrell launched a pinch-hit solo shot to start the sixth
- McCammon added a solo shot to put the 'Dogs on top 19-3

WRAPUP

- Harvey got the win, moving to 7-0 on the year
- He allowed two earned runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out three
- Jacob Nester took the loss, allowing 11 runs on 11 hits in 2 1/3 innings

UP NEXT

- The Bulldogs and Wasps wrap up the series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
