Greenville, S.C.----The top-ranked Wingate University women's golf team completed a dominant run at the South Atlantic Conference championship, sweeping through match play to secure the SAC title at The Preserve at Verdae.
The Bulldogs opened match play with a commanding 5-0 victory over Catawba in the semifinal round, before closing out the championship with a 3.5-1.5 win over Lincoln Memorial in the final to capture the conference crown.
Semifinal quick hits (Catawba)
- Wingate delivered a dominant 5-0 sweep in the semifinal round
- The No. 1 ranked player in the nation, sophomore
Amely Bochaton went out in game three and won 5-up with one birdie
- Sophomore
Olivia Meinecke (No. 5 national) recorded five birdies in a strong 5-up victory
- Senior
Lauren Sutcliffe set the tone early, going out in game one and winning 11-up with four birdies
- Junior
Jackie Gonzalez Howard secured a 1-up victory to add another point for the Bulldogs
- Sophomore
Haley Paramore completed the sweep with a 2-up win
Final match quick hits (LMU)
- Wingate captured the SAC title with a 3.5-1.5 victory in the championship match
- Bochaton dominated her match, winning 6-up with four birdies
- Sutcliffe added a key point with a 3-up victory
- Gonzalez Howard delivered the most decisive win of the match, cruising to a 7-up victory
- Meinecke halved her match to secure the half point needed for the team
