Emporia, Kan.----Wingate University freshman
Klaus Scholz qualified for the men's 800 meters final in the NCAA Division II outdoor national championship meet Friday. This year's event is
hosted by Emporia State University on the Zola Witten Track inside the Francis G. Welch Stadium.
The NCAA Division II indoor 800 meters silver medalist, Scholz ran a time of 1:48.71 Friday. He won the South Atlantic Conference title in his signature event both indoors and outdoors. Scholz holds Wingate's outdoor 800 meters' school record with his time of 1:47.09, which he posted at the Wake Forest Invitational in April.
Twelve Bulldogs will compete in Saturday championship finals on the meet's third and final day. Wingate women will see action in the shot put, the high jump and the 5000 meters. The Bulldog men will compete in the triple jump, the 1500 meters, the 800 meters and the 5000 meters.
Wingate will have six student-athletes in the 5000 meters, four men and two women. The men's 5000 meters is slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT, while the women's 5000 meters concludes the 2026 NCAA Division II outdoor national championship meet at 7:55 p.m. EDT.
