Wingate, N.C.----The top-three Wingate cross country teams compete in the Converse Kick-Off Saturday, September 19 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Converse University is hosting the event at the Milliken Research Park. The two races (men's 8K at 9 a.m., women's 6K at 9:45 a.m.) serve as a Southeast Regional Preview run for teams from the Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference and the South Atlantic Conference.

"We are now starting this XC season after many weeks of summer training. Everything went pretty smoothly, I would say…we're not at the best of our potential yet…this first race is more to see where we are at the moment. Everybody looks really excited to put the singlet on, some of them for the first time. I'd like to give a shout out to junior Kenton (Fields), who's been the one of us with the highest mileage this summer…and he still keeps doing it. We have no doubt he'll do well this XC season."

The defending national champion Wingate men's cross country team is No. 1 in the first NCAA Division II U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) coaches' poll released Wednesday. The Wingate women's XC team is No. 3. The Bulldog squads occupy the No. 1 spot in the Southeast Region rankings for both men and women.

For the second year in a row, the Wingate men's cross country team had a perfect score of 15 on the way to the NCAA Division II Southeast Region championship at the Milliken Research Park Saturday, November 9, 2024. The Bulldogs had the top six finishers, led by individual champion Ricardo Barbosa ('25).
 
The Wingate women's cross country team had four student-athletes finish in the top eight as the Bulldogs claimed the NCAA Division II Southeast Region championship at the Milliken Research Park Saturday, November 9, 2024. Mia Cabrera ('26) finished second, thanks to her personal-best 6K time of 21:09.5.
