Biography

2010: Liz Willis earned All-SAC and All-Region honors for the third consecutive season. She led the team with 6.95 assists per set and 30 aces, while ranking fourth with 2.62 digs per set. She played a big role in an offense than ranked third nationally in assists per set and kills per set, and ninth in hitting percentage. Willis notched 10 double-doubles on the season, ranking second on the team in that category. She had 27 assists and 16 digs in the victory over Flagler. Willis handed out 38 assists in the win against Winston-Salem State. She had 27 assists and 18 digs in the Catawba victory. Willis had 22 assists and 17 digs in the Tusculum win. She had a season-high 50 assists in the win at Newberry, adding 11 digs and four blocks. Willis collected 37 assists and 11 digs in the SAC Tournament semifinal win over Carson-Newman. She had 31 assists, 10 digs and two aces in the regional semifinal victory over Montevallo.

2009:
Willis led the SAC with 9.96 assists per set in her sophomore season at Wingate. She earned first team All-SAC honors, while also earning All-Region accolades. Willis led the Bulldogs with 13 double-doubles in the 2009 season. She started the year with 39 assists and 13 digs against Pfeiffer. Willis had 38 assists and 13 digs in the 3-2 win over Flagler, followed by a 41-assists, 18-dig performance against Barry. She had 41 assists and 10 digs in the sweep over Lenoir-Rhyne. Willis notched three consecutive double-doubles while leading Wingate to wins over Lincoln Memorial, Carson Newman and Catawba. She had a season-best 54 assists in the LMU victory. Willis handed out 40 assists in the sweep over Francis Marion, while notching a double-double with 44 assists and 12 digs in the regular season finale win over LMU. She had 25 digs and 14 assists in the SAC quarterfinal win over Brevard. Willis had 47 assists, eight digs and six kills in the SAC championship match against Carson-Newman.

2008: Willis was name the AVCA Southeast Region Freshman of the Year while also being named the South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year. An All-SAC and All-Region performer, Willis led the SAC with 9.80 assists per set. She was second on the team with 35 aces and 2.39 digs per set. Willis helped the Bulldogs lead the SAC in kills and assists while ranking second in hitting percentage. She handed out 40 or more assists eight times on the year, including a career-high 56 in a 3-2 win at Catawba. She had 50 assists and 11 digs in the SAC Tournament semifinals against Newberry.

High School: Willis was a two-time all-conference selection at Enloe High School. She was named the team MVP her final two seasons and the conference MVP her senior year. She was named the 2007 Raleigh Sports Club’s Scholarship Athlete and was awarded a prestigious Belk academic scholarship to attend Wingate.

Coach Collier: “When Liz graduates after this season and goes onto medical school, she will do so as the winningest setter ever in our conference and in our region. She has led our team to some amazing accomplishments over the last three years, and will be one of the most important factors to success this year.”
