Wingate University Athletics

Terrence Stephens earned a spot on the pre-season All-SAC team in 2010 (as voted by the league’s sports information directors). Stephens was second on the Wingate team charts with 62 tackles last year. He added two tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble and six pass break-ups. Stephens had seven stops (six solo) in Wingate’s 56-35 road victory over Mars Hill (Nov. 7, 2009). He recorded eight tackles in Wingate’s 42-31 nationally-televised triumph over Tusculum (Sept. 24, 2009).

Stephens had 48 tackles, 10 pass break-ups and one fumble recovery in his first season in the blue-and-gold. In a huge 37-33 home SAC win over Tusculum, Stephens had a career-best 14 tackles. Stephens and his Eastern Arizona College teammates earned the distinction as the number one defense in the NJCAA. At Lighthouse Christian School, Stephens was a member of the football, basketball and track teams. In football, he was All-Conference and All-Far East as a senior. He earned the same honors in basketball, adding All-State laurels to his trophy case. Stephens was team captain and team MVP in football as a senior. He led the team in rushing and tackles. He was a Principal’s List and Honor Roll student in high school. Terrence is the son of Nelson and Veda Stephens.
