Cody Haffly is a pre-season honorable mention All-American, as named by Consensus Draft Services (CDS). Haffly was one of 24 candidates in the running for the 2010 Harlon Hill Trophy as the NCAA Division II college football Player of the Year. For the 2010 season, Haffly was 274-of-448 for 3952 yards and 42 touchdowns. He threw for 477 yards and seven touchdowns in the thrilling NCAA play-off victory over Morehouse (Nov. 20, 2011). The Capital One Academic All-America® candidate had 300-plus passing yards in nine of his 12 games last season. Haffly earned Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-Super Region 2 and All-SAC second team laurels.

In 2009, Haffly completed 179-of-314 passes for 2281 yards and 21 touchdowns. He had only six interceptions on the season. Haffly had three games with three touchdowns passes and three games with two TD passes. He ended his first season as Wingate’s starter in a big way, completing 18-of-30 passes for 293 yards and five TD passes as the Bulldogs earned a road victory at Mars Hill 56-35. He also rushed for one TD against the Lions. His teammates elected him a captain for the 2010 season.

Haffly completed 10-of-11 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns during the 2008 campaign. He was a perfect four-for-four for 56 yards and one TD in a road win at Saint Paul’s. Haffly tossed another scoring strike in a victory over UNCP. He completed four more passes against Brevard. In 2007, Haffly spent the season as a redshirt.

At Luella High, he played football and baseball. His football coach was Paul Burgdorf. Haffly compiled 6,500 passing yards and a 62 percent completion rate during his high school career. He was a first team All-Conference performer in football as a senior. Haffly led the county in passing for three years in a row. He was voted best offensive player two years each in football and baseball. An active member in Wingate’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Haffly is a fixture on the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Wingate Bulldog Academic top 10. Cody is the son of Theresa and Scott McClellan and Robert Haffly.
