Wingate University Athletics

Jonathan Simmons had an impressive start to his Wingate career, seeing time in 12 games for the 2010 SAC champion Bulldogs. He had a total of 30 tackles, including eight tackles for loss. He had 3.5 sacks (second on the team). Simmons forced and recovered two fumbles on the season.

Simmons joined the Bulldog family in the fall of 2010 as a transfer from Joliet Junior College. During his sophomore season at Joliet, he earned All-Conference and All-Region honors. Simmons led the team in sacks (seven) and tackles for loss (16). At Lincoln-Way Central High School, Simmons was a member of the football and track teams. In football, he was an All-Conference performer for head coach Rob Glielmi. In track, Simmons earned All-Conference laurels nine teams and All-Sectional honors four times. He qualified for the Illinois state meet on two occasions. Simmons’ brother is a defensive end at Northwood (Mich.) University. Jonathan is the son of Shawn and Paula Simmons.
