Josh Covington rushed 77 times for 303 yards and six touchdowns as a true freshman. He was second to Andrew Nallenweg on the Bulldog rushing charts. Covington carried 10 times for 80 yards and one score in a home victory over Brevard. He had two TDs in a road win at UNC Pembroke. Covington returned 12 kick-offs for 309 yards. He had five returns for 151 yards (with a 69-yard return) at Lenoir-Rhyne.
 
At Providence Day, Covington compiled 1871 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns during his senior season for head coach Bruce Hardin. He recorded 8.1 yards per carry his final campaign. Covington was named All-State, All-Conference, All-Mecklenburg County and PDS MVP his junior and senior campaigns. He helped the Chargers win the league title his final season. Covington holds the North Carolina and Mecklenburg County single game rushing record with 395 yards. Josh is the son of Sheri Covington.
