Roman Kanyuka

Biography

2014-15: Roman Kanyuka led Bulldogs in the breaststroke events. He qualified for the NCAA Championship meet, posting a personal-best in the 100 Breast (54.50) and earning a 13th place finish. He also swam the 200 Breast (2:00.10) at nationals, gaining 15th place. Kanyuka received honorable mention All-American recognition for his NCAA Championship performances. During the BMC championship meet, Kanyuka finshed fifth in the 100 Breast (54.68) and third in the 200 Breast (2:10.10) to earn All-Conference honors. He was also part of the Men’s 200 and 400 Medley Relay teams on both the Conference and National level. Kanyuka also received CSCAA Scholar All-America recognition.

2013-14: Kanyuka swam the following career-best times at the ninth annual SCAD College Invitational in Savannah, Ga. Dec. 5: 55.06 in the 100 Breaststroke and 2:00.42 in the 200 Breaststroke. At the Quad Meet in Charlotte he swam the following times: 57.05 (100 Breaststroke) and 59.82 (100 Butterfly).
 
Kanyuka also swam a career-best 2:04.67 in the 200 Breaststroke at the Queens vs. Wingate dual meet in Charlotte. He opened his collegiate career at the 2013 All-N.C. Invitational in Greensboro with the following times: 57.93 (100 Breaststroke), 2:06.92 (200 Breaststroke) and 2:05.93 (200 Individual Medley).
 
Personal: Kauyuka hails from Moscow, Russia. He is the son of Oleg and Olga Kauyuka. A transfer from Daytona State College, he attended N° 704 High School in Russia. His top three events and times are 50 Breast (29.00, Long Course), 100 Breast (55.00) and 200 Breast (2.02). When Kauyuka is not swimming, he loves to listen to music.
