Biography

2010: Allison Smith was 16-7 with a 1.97 ERA in her junior season at Wingate. Smith had 26 appearances with 23 starts, notching 134 strikeouts in 142 innings of work. Smith had 17 complete games and a team-best seven shutouts on the season. She finished third in the SAC in shutouts, fifth in strikeouts and opponents’ batting average, sixth in ERA and complete games and eighth in wins. Smith started her season with a no-hitter against Augusta State, striking out seven in the 3-0 win. She followed that with 11 strikeouts against Coker. Smith notched one-hit shutouts against Erskine and St. Andrews, followed by back-to-back shutouts against North Greenville and Limestone where she collected 13 strikeouts against just two walks. Smith struck out 10 in a one-hit shutout against Tusculum, while whiffing seven in the four-hit shutout against Newberry.

2009: Smith led the SAC with a 0.94 ERA, 7.13 strikeouts per game and an opponents batting average of .188. She also ranked ninth nationally in ERA. Smith went 13-7 on the season, racking up 129 strikeouts in 126.2 innings pitched. In her 24 appearances, she never allowed more than three earned runs. She allowed zero or one earned run in 20 of her outings. Smith struck out five or more batters 13 times. She struck out nine in a four-hit shutout against Coker. After striking out 11 and allowing only two hits in a 3-2 win over Mount Olive, Smith allowed one hit while striking out 14 in a 2-1 win over Queens. She had seven strikeouts in the 2-0 win over Francis Marion. She had six consecutive outings without allowing an earned run, spanning 28 innings. She struck out 29 during the streak, while allowing only 18 hits.

PERSONAL: Smith attended Lord Botetourt School where she played softball for coach Christina Porter and was also a middle blocker on the volleyball squad. Smith was named to the all-district first team in high school and was also the region pitcher-of-the-year. The sophomore from Daleville, Virginia comes to Wingate after spending one season at Manhattan College.
